Underground Gallery 40
A space for art, artists and community.
Believing that art is a fundamental legacy that we leave for future generations, Pedro Rutkowski found in Underground Gallery 40 a way to deliver value to society and contribute to something he believes is essential: supporting art and emerging artists.
After an opening group exhibition in 2018, entitled “Hypermnesia”, Underground Gallery 40 was also the stage for the exhibition “Stills of Life”, in October and November 2024.
“Stills of Life” was a group exhibition focused on the silent moments that shape our identities and experiences. With works by Daniela Guerreiro, Jorge Charrua, Mafalda M. Gonçalves, Mariana Duarte Santos and Regg Salgado, each artist occupied a different room, creating a series of immersive environments that evoke personal and collective stories.
The exhibition invited visitors to embark on a journey through memory, intimacy and the human figure.

The vision behind
Underground Gallery 40
When Pedro Rutkowski acquired the Palacete Duque d’Ávila, he realized the potential that the lower floor had to give way to a dream of his: supporting art and young Portuguese artists.
After a thorough remodeling and adaptation, Underground Gallery 40 appears, an exhibition space without any commercial purpose, and suitable for exhibitions by different artists, due to the multiple rooms found here.

The future of emerging artists passes by Underground Gallery 40.
We want to be a reference space in the Portuguese art scene and we are open to welcoming new artists and helping them exhibit their work.
