BNP Paribas, the leading bank in the European Union, with a presence in 63 countries and more than 183,000 employees, recently concluded the renegotiation of the contract for the extension and expansion of its facilities in Torre Ocidente, currently managed by South Capital, in an operation of around 27,000 sq.m, for the next 8 years.
This moment reinforces the Group’s commitment to Portugal and its commitment to its business in the country, maintaining a strong presence in Lisbon and Porto. Worx Real Estate Consultants was instructed to represent the French group in this operation.
“BNP Paribas’ commitment thus results in two hubs in Lisbon (Torre Ocidente and Exeo) and one in Porto (Urbo), representing the Group’s clear commitment to Portugal, responding to the growth expected in the coming years. After more than 35 years operating in the Portuguese market, we feel this is the right step, reinforcing a long-standing commitment,” says Xavier Jombart, COO of BNP Paribas in Portugal.
In the context of the Smart Working program, which establishes a work policy focused on four pillars – Teleworking, Flexible Work Spaces, New Digital Tools, Focus on People – Torre Ocidente is undergoing restructuring work, aimed at responding to the needs arising from a model implemented strategically by a Group with more than 8,700 employees, in an integrated manner, through the implementation of the most modern digital tools. “It’s very important for us to standardize the tools available in any of our 3 hubs in the country, so that the campus experience is uniform and of the same quality,” says Xavier Jombart.
On the part of South Capital, satisfaction is also evident with this operation: “We are very proud to continue our partnership with BNP Paribas at Torre Ocidente, which has undergone progressive restructuring in order to meet the quality standards demanded by a prime tenant like BNP Paribas. Torre Ocidente is an emblematic building in Lisbon and we are working to ensure that it provides visibility and comfort for BNP Paribas employees.”
Bernardo Zammit e Vasconcelos, Head of Agency at Worx, added: “After analyzing the alternatives on the market, BNP Paribas decided to extend its presence in Torre Ocidente, safeguarding its future expansion as the institutional occupier of this asset. This is a sign of confidence that, coming from one of the world’s leading financial institutions, reinforces our conviction that Lisbon continues to be an attractive city for major multinationals. It is with great pride that Worx was part of this process, acting on behalf of the interests and objectives identified by BNP Paribas, successfully concluding one of the major real estate leasing operations on record in our market.”
